New Ideal Diner in Aberdeen Under New Management?

While driving to work this morning, I noticed a sign outside on the New Ideal Diner on Rt. 40 in Aberdeen that said it was under new management. Anyone out there have the details?

  1. Yes, the New Ideal diner is under new management since late 2007. The couple that now runs the diner also own several restaurants in the Mid Atlantic area. Since the new management took over, the food has improved 100% over what it was before. The diner was known for good food, but I had about quit eating there because the food had gotten into a rut over the past year or so. Things such as the meatloaf came out dry and hard like it had been sitting all day. Now, all the food I have gotten there since the change is fresh and hot, including the meatloaf :). All of the food is in large servings and still reasonably priced. The crab soup, which always was great still is great. One of the things that has improved but still could use a little zest are the breakfast potatoes but everything else I or my family has eaten was delicious.

Some simple additions such as plants on the counter and hanging in baskets liven up the interior, The new staff is very friendly and the service is great. Plus now when the bill comes, each person gets a small treat for free. Sometimes it is cookies or grapes, but during the summer, large slices of watermelon or cantelope have been served. Since the new management, I have seen the diner about fill up at times, especially during breakfast and lunch.

The couple is Greek and a number of new items available show their heritage. The wife of the couple spends a lot of time working in the kitchen and is a great cook. Thought I have not had the chance to try them, I hear that her Greek meatballs, which often sell out on the days they are available, are delicious.

I think everyone should try ther “new” New Ideal Diner.
