Aberdeen High addition cheaper than thought, money to go to Joppatowne High gym
According to the latest Harford County Board of Education "In the Loop", the Board unanimously agreed to allow Superintendant Haas to "seek the transfer of $550,000 from the Aberdeen High School classroom addition project (which came in $800,000 under budget) to support the shortfall in the budgeted amount for the Joppatowne project." The Joppatowne project is a new gym addition to the high school.
While on the surface it seems like a proper reallocation of funds, the award for the Aberdeen construction was given just last month. How is it $800k under budget already? The new Joppatowne gym is scheduled to be built and occupied this fiscal year (08), while the Aberdeen construction isn’t slated to begin until next year. Will Aberdeen High’s construction be shafted again?
