What Happens When Upper Chesapeake Medical Center Expands With The Same Amount Of Staff?
I am proposing this question because I do not know the answer… what happens when Upper Chesapeake Medical Center opens all their new rooms and there is a minimal staff increase? Maybe there is a huge amount of nurses, nurse techs, x-ray technicians, phlebotomists and physical therapists waiting in the wings somewhere. Maybe there are loads of applicants that have yet to be hired awaiting the day that the doors to all the new rooms are opened.
But my guess to the above is… I don’t think so. I think it is wonderful that we finally have a community hospital in Harford County that we can depend on and offers great care. By the way, I really do believe that, but it is scary to think about what will happen when they expand their capacity. Isn’t there agency and contract nurses and clinicians in the facility already? Just a thought I have had watching the progress of the "new wing" go up as I drive up and down route 24.
I hope that UCMC offers some great sign on bonuses and very enticing hourly wages, as we all know that money really is the bottom line in this field of work. Close to home is a plus but… twenty thousand more a year is even better!

They are already opening the rooms and they do not have the staff. The pharmacy uses some agency also!! The staff is stressed out and the busy season is just starting.
Have there been any studies performed that detail the impact BRAC will have on Harford Memorial in Havre de Grace? You can maybe fit 10 people in the ER waiting room there, and they do not accept pediatric patients, among others.
With no express care facilities in the area, and a supposed influx of new residents to the Havre de Grace/Aberdeen corridor, you would think that UCHS would hurry up with planned renovations to the older hospital.
I work at HMH and the biggest concern there now is the pending influenza pandemic, not necessarily BRAC. HMH and UCMC are both expanding and they are actively recruiting new employees. I just wanted to say that HMH is a great place to work and much more friendly than UCMC.
