Harford County Blogger Spotlight: Grace Ibay

We are happy to introduce a new feature to HarfordNow, Harford County blogger interviews! We are starting an interview series with Harford-based bloggers to give them more exposure to the local community. Our first in a series of interviews is with Grace Ibay. Grace writes 3 blogs for b5media, one of the largest blog networks.

How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging for just over 2 years. I started with 3 personal blogs back in 2005 when my sister introduced me to the blogosphere. At first it was a hobby, a way to express myself and connect with our families across two continents.

Who or what introduced you to blogging?
My sister joined b5media first and within months of following her blog and others in the network I was blogging for them myself!

What motivates you to blog?
It’s funny but writing is something I’ve always been passionate about. Growing up, you know, writing stuff for the highschool newspaper and hoping some ‘career’ develops out of this interest. Years later with blogging, I am actually going back to that childhood dream. Blogging is fun, and it’s a lot of hard work. But because I love to communicate with people anyway, then I find it very fulfilling.

What blog(s) do you currently write?
Filipina Soul (http://www.filipinasoul.com), which I blog with my sister. It’s a blog that’s all about the country we migrated from - the Philippines, its people and culture, arts, entertainment, current events and more. We talk about the accomplishments of Filipinos worldwide, and also about events local to the Philippines.

Superhero Profiles (http://www.superheroprofiles.com), which blogs on two hit TV shows about super/heroes - Heroes on NBC and Smallville on CW. Those are definitely fun shows to watch, and even more interesting to write about.

Kids Health Notes (http://kidshealthnotes.com) - it’s my newest blog, that as a mom and scientist, I’m excited to share. It’s about information and resource on children’s health issues, such diseases, treatments, first aid, safety and other everyday tips for a healthier family.

Do you feel that bloggers are making a difference in the world? If so, how?

Now this is kind of a hard question. Are bloggers making a difference? I should hope so. We’ve seen the collective voice of bloggers making an impact in the political arena. On a smaller scale, a responsible writer can provide information, get the word out, start a discussion, or maybe lead a story that helps a niche of readers. But write irresponsibly, and we make a negative kind of difference.
