Well, it’s really not a welcome sign at all. Many of you have probably noticed that the large billboard along Route 40 featuring Aberdeen’s most prominent insurance salesman has been defaced. For those that have not seen it, the sign features a large picture of Mayor, and State Farm agent, Fred Simmons. Well, Mayor Simmons’ picture is now sporting a fresh beard, along with some other sayings. Hopefully the vandals will be apprehended in this case.

But this brings another issue to mind. Is it a conflict on interest for the mayor of a city to be advertising for anything other than the city? Does this convey the image of a part-time city government, with more important things on their minds?
