Construction at schools can pose many dangers
Now that school is back in session for Bel Air Middle School students who had to be evacuated yesterday afternoon due to a construction crews’ mishap with a gas line, there’s no telling how many more schools are going to experience a disruption in the school day for the same problem, if not more dangerous complications.
With this said, why is there major construction going on while school is in session? Is there some law that prohibitted construction and renovation at the schools during the summer when school was out?
Construction crews begin working, and waking residents, as early as 6:30 a.m. at Harford Christian School on Moores Mill Road. Similarly, motorists are greeted by a massive construction site near Bel Air High School. Is anyone even concerned that their children are in any kind of danger while they are being exposed to strangers on school grounds who now have easy access to vulnerable children of all ages?

…I have a feeling this will continue for the unforeseeable future. The county schools are going to be in a constant building and remodeling cycle.
I know that at one elementary school in the county children showed up with no playground or fields available for recess. Instead, parents had to sign permission slips for the kids to have recess in a field across the street, off of school grounds. I wouldn’t characterize the neighborhood as the safest either. I do understand that this will be remedied by the end of the month, which is great news and a credit to school and administrators.
