Aberdeen to Pay More In Taxes “Where Does It End?”
The city counsel and Mayor S. Fred Simmons of Aberdeen propose an increase of more than 40 percent in the city’s property tax — from 55 cents to 79 cents per $100 of assessed value — needed to make up for a $2 million deficit in the city’s budget. Mayor S. Fred Simmons has enacted pay and pension increases for city employees while the infrastructure and schools in continue to fall short of money for improvements. The management of the city’s budget is out of control and now the mayor wants the citizens here to give more so they can spend more on needless practices and unethical actions.
It is time for the people to stand up and tell the mayor we are tired of paying more in taxes and seeing less for our dollars. The city for the past seven years has consistently raised the property taxes of Aberdeen, and with the number of new developments in the area the city has brought in thousands of dollars more in taxes but road conditions and public services have decreased. So before Mayor S. Fred Simmons asks us to pay more of our hard earned money on taxes he need to answer the question, “Where is the money you are already collecting?”

You took the words right out of my mouth. Where does it end? Something needs to change!
