Scratch Regal Cinemas in Abingdon as a family destination
Well, you can forget about taking the kids to see a movie in Abingdon any time soon. The Examiner is reporting that an Edgewood man was beaten and robbed by a group of teens Friday night at Regal Cinema’s in Abingdon. This happened in the parking lot, after the movie let out around 11:30 PM. The teens not only beat the man in front of his wife, his 16-year old daughter, and his 11-year old soon, but went back and stole his wallet to cap things off. All of this because he asked the kids to be quiet during the movie.
Look, I know things like this happen from time to time. And this could be an isolated incident. But the quote below from the article seas the deal for my family ever going back to Regal.
Investigators reviewed security camera footage from the theater, but
the video quality was too poor to get additional descriptions,
Presberry said.A manager at the theater declined comment.
Are you serious? How can the video quality be too poor? Isn’t thins something that gets tested by the facility? And why was the victim the one who had to call police?

I wrote about this too today over at http://www.belairnewsandviews.blogspot.com. I don’t think I’d feel comfortable taking my kids there at night unless I saw better lighting and more security. And it’s a shame that ushers don’t quiet noisy moviegoers. Movies are plenty expensive. If you can’t enjoy the movie or return safely to your car, there are plenty of other places you can spend your money.
I can’t remember the last time I went to a movie that wasn’t animated and during a matinee. It’s also alot cheaper to wait 2 months, buy the DVD, popcorn, and soda than take a family of 5 to the theater.
