Aberdeen and Havre de Grace to be BRAC winners, but are they ready to play ball?

A new study claims that Aberdeen and Havre de Grace will gain 1 in 4 of the new households as a result of BRAC, according to an article by Matthew Santoni in The Examiner. but there couldn’t be a bigger contrast in the statements on preparedness by the two mayors. Aberdeen’s Mayor Fred Simmons does not sound too confident in his statements about whether Aberdeen is, or will be, ready.

“The city would have loved to have the resources to get all the
infrastructure in ahead of development, but with our limited tax base
and the enormity of the expense, we have to look to the county, the
state and the federal government to help us.”

Havre de grace Mayor Wayne Dougherty is singing a different tune.

“By 2012, we’ll be in great shape,” Dougherty said. “Havre de Grace is
really better off than anybody else as far as capacity goes.”

What are your views on the future of these cities as it pertains to the upcoming BRAC move? Do you feel they are ready? How about the rest of the county?
