Charter Schools To Get Same Funding As Public Schools

Maryland’s highest court ruled that charter schools are entitled to equal funding as public schools. This case was brought about because Baltimore City public schools felt that the mandatory amount of money per student was not necessary for those that attend charter school. They claimed that the appropriated money included duplicate costs, which would waste taxpayers money.

Now I hate paying taxes like most people, but one thing I feel tax money is never wasted on is education. Harford County is slowly being introduced to the concept of charter schools. Currently we have The Restoration Academy, which is located in the old north building of the former Aberdeen High School. I believe it’s time to admit that some students need alternatives in learning and developmental styles. If it is demonstrated that a child is not able to handle the mainstream methods of learning, that doesn’t mean that child is incapable. Some of the methods used in charter schools may turn out to be better for all students.

How do you feel about charter schools? Do you have any experiences with them, whether in Harford County or elsewhere?
