The Sludge in the State Park
It seems that the sludge has hit the fan in Havre de Grace. For those that don’t know, sewage sludge is being dumped in Susquehanna State Park. Local residents are up in arms about the smell and the noisy trucks that pass by their houses on the way to the park. They also claim that since it is a state park, the dumping should not occur.
It turns out that the area that is being treated is leased out by the state, and this isn’t the only state park where this may be happening. Is this appropriate use for state-owned land? Is the residents beef valid? Isn’t this a good use of recycled waste?
